Abstract
The ministry of prayer and its implications for church growth were the main foci of this study. By utilizing Living Faith Church as a case study, the goal is to demonstrate the part that the ministry of prayer plays in church development. The historical method was the research methodology used in this study. The research project used a field-and library-based methodology, which included conducting oral interviews, using the internet, and studying relevant materials such theses, books, and journals. Data was gathered, examined, and conclusions were drawn. Among them were the observations that Living Faith Church grew as a consequence of its collective commitment to prayer and the presence of a praying pastor serving as its spiritual leader. Because the quality of a church’s prayer life influences how the church grows, the researcher advised pastors and church leaders to engage in the work of intercession and to encourage members to join in prevailing prayers. The researcher further suggested that, in order to secure the expansion of God’s kingdom on earth, local churches should seek out and select between five and fifty individuals, depending on their size and membership, who will commit their lives to the ministry of intercession.

INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
Our level of alignment with God’s ultimate purpose is revealed via prayer. God desires for His church to expand and for His lost children to be found. This is the truth closest to God’s heart, and it forms the basis of His whole redemptive purpose. God wants us to care for the lost because He cares about them. Jesus tells us that our hearts will be where our treasure is (Matthew 6:21). That is to say, our hearts will be drawn to constant prayer by the things that are truly significant to us. Thus, the extent to which our hearts are consumed by God’s priorities during prayer might serve as a gauge for how close we are to his worries.
Through close study, experts have found that the secret to the expansion and prosperity of many Christian groups is prayer ministry. Christians’ greatest strength is prayer. Above all, the authority of ministers. “The call to holiness at the heart of the Christian gospel” is dependent upon prayer, according to (Don Saliers, 1991) who also states that prayer “constitutes the focal point of Christian existence: Christ’s own life is one of active prayer and prayerful action.” Thus, it is appropriate to consider his entire existence to be a prayer—a constant act of self-offering in love and submission to the Father. Sensing the seriousness of the current church problem, Nigerian pastors and spiritual leaders have launched a number of initiatives and programs aimed at fostering church growth. They toiled diligently day and night to stop the Nigerian Church’s downward spiral. The situation did not appear to improve despite the Nigerian ministers’ best efforts; rather, it continued to deteriorate. This demonstrates the limitations of church growth programs and methodology and the idea that the church cannot grow solely through human-designed programs.
Nigerian ministers put forth a lot of effort and strive for improved quality, yet nothing seems to change. This research investigates the theologically grounded effects of prayer on church growth in response to the difficult conditions the Nigerian Church finds itself in. Many churches have grown significantly by successfully developing all four of these traits, or even just one. But of the four, prayer deserves more attention because it influences the other three aspects. A church cannot genuinely flourish if prayer is absent from it. If we do not pray for expansion, our churches will not expand. “Therefore, ask the Lord of the Harvest to send out workers into his harvest field,” declared Jesus (Matthew 9:38). We are not entirely sure how God’s harvest is connected to our prayers. Most of the time, churches that don’t pray for development just don’t expand.
Therefore, the most crucial element in church growth is prayer. Not only is prayer essential for a church’s expansion, but it is also essential for its members. For churchgoers, prayer functions similarly to a spiritual breathing apparatus. When a person can no longer breathe, they are deemed dead. A follower of Christ who quits praying is also spiritually dead. Through prayer, Christians can establish a relationship with God. Christ not only modeled a life of prayer for the disciples, but he also taught them how to pray. The disciples had learned how to live a life of prayer from Christ, and the members of the early Church learned it from the disciples. In other words, the life of prayer has been inherited from generation to generation in the Church. Dr. William Parker and Alain St. Jones state that prayer is not only an effective way to heal diseases but also to the only way to reconstruct.
