Nigeria being a multilingual nation. Speakers of different languages come in contact every day in such areas as business, office, market, school and worship centres. There is a need for one to learn an additional language  apart from one’s mother tongue,  that  is,  a Yoruba man,  for  instance,  to  speak, read, write and interact with an Igbo man or an Hausa man, or the other  way  round. This is where English phonology sets in as a second language that an average Yoruba man needs to use and communicate with another man from another tribe fluently.
