Walking in Integrity - Biblical Definition of Integrity - ScriptureWay

Abstract

This study uses exegesis and Reader Response to explore how Nigerian Christians view pulpit ministry differently than Titus’ portrayal of a Christian minister’s life. Some 21st Century clergy’ lack of theological training has impacted their biblical ethics and integrity. This illiteracy has become a critical issue in times when affluence has taken over the pulpit in many Nigerian churches. This study, therefore, explores the ethics underpinning the biblical interpretation and behavior of many of these missions in light of Titus 2:7-8. This study uses exegesis and Reader Response to explore how Nigerian Christians view pulpit ministry differently than Titus’ portrayal of a Christian minister’s life. The outcome demonstrates that many of what might be said about some current preachers is nothing to write home about contrary to the counsel Paul stated that the integrity of a pastor should be regarded seriously in a way that their opponents would have nothing bad to say about them. The report suggests that Nigerian Church leaders prioritize training and setting a good example for their followers.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background to the Study

Pastoral ministry plays an important role in promoting morality in the Christian community and beyond the world. It is important to understand that gospel ministers are not regular persons working in ordinary areas; they are responsible for raising men in the whole image of Christ. Pastoral letters were primarily written to pastors and contained precise instructions for the Church, their conduct, and their work. Throughout history, there have been ministers whose lives and conduct defined pastoral ministry, as well as others whose lives have destroyed it. Despite these problems, pastoral service maintains its integrity. Ministers of God are supposed to exhibit uncorrupted virtue, particularly in terms of truth and fair dealing.    The value of ministerial integrity in terms of godliness, holiness, blamelessness, and skilled hands is undeniable. life of integrity increases Christian minister’s credibility and effectiveness. This research implies that integrity in pastoral ministry should be held in the greatest regard in relation to God’s word. The researcher discusses the fact that, in order to maintain integrity, gospel preachers must be certain of their calling, cling onto it, and view it as duty to practice what they preach.

Furthermore, this study revealed that integrity in pastoral ministry must be based solely on Christ righteousness because it is the only way to conceal and regulate moral excess. Throughout history, there have been ministers whose lives and actions defined pastoral ministry, as well as others whose lives have destroyed pastoral ministry.Despite these problems, pastoral service maintains its integrity. Many people believe that integrity can only be demonstrated via words rather than actions. As result, the purpose of this research is to clearly explain the idea of integrity in pastoral ministry in light of Titus 2:7-8 and its relevance. An exegesis of Titus 2:7-8 that use the Reader Response hermeneutical concept to analyze the passage’s contextual interpretation and demonstrate how ministers in Nigeria are supposed to represent an integrity-based lifestyle. This study is important because it will assist pastors and Christians in general in seeking and maintaining integrity in their lives and work. The research will also provide insight into some of the key words used in the text. This study uses exegesis of the chosen passage as well as the Reader Response hermeneutical principle to analyze the passage’s contextual interpretation.
