ABSTRACT

This study investigated the knowledge and awareness of teachers and students towards teaching sex education in secondary schools in Ilorin Metropolis of Kwara state. One hundred and fifty respondents who were randomly selected from schools in Ilorin Metropolis of Kwara State participated in the study. Data gathered were analyzed using percentage, t-test and Analysis of Variance ANOVA. It cleared that students and teachers in Ilorin Metropolis has little awareness on the teaching and learning of sex education in secondary schools. It was recommended that there is a need to take action to empower students to make responsible and informed decisions with regard to sexual and reproductive health, as well as addressing gender-based violence. For this, while introducing Sexuality Education in schools, the learning objectives should cover the components in the learning process.
