Abstract
This study examined nurses’ attitudes toward preventing relapses in psychiatric patients. It was conducted at Ahmadu Bello University ABUTH Shika, and 74 nurses of various ages were chosen and asked to complete a questionnaire to get their opinions on the subject. The study has five chapters: the introduction, the literature review, the research methodology, the formula, and the results.

INTRODUCTION
1.0 Background of the study
Approximately 450 million people are affected by psychiatric diseases, which are the primary cause of disability globally (WHO, 2021). Among vulnerable populations like convicts, refugees, and those who are homeless, the prevalence of psychiatric diseases is very high (Fazel et al., 2018; Nosè et al., 2019; Fazel et al., 2018). To avoid recurrence and guarantee their recovery, these people need specialist care. Relapse prevention is a crucial part of the treatment given to patients in psychiatric facilities. It entails locating the potential relapse triggers, educating patients on coping mechanisms, and offering assistance to stop relapse (Gumley et al., 2017). As they are in charge of tracking patients’ development, recognizing potential triggers, and offering support and direction to patients and their families, nurses play a critical role in preventing relapses. The quality of treatment delivered by nurses and other healthcare professionals is significantly impacted by attitude. The beliefs, values, and feelings that affect how people view and react to a particular event or object are referred to as attitudes (Fishbein &Ajzen, 2010). Relapse prevention among psychiatric patients is a topic that nurses’ attitudes on may have an impact on their capacity to deliver high-quality treatment and enhance patient outcomes.
The attitude of nurses toward relapse prevention in mental patients may be influenced by a number of factors. In particular, Reininghaus et al. (2016), Cattan et al. (2019), Jacobs et al. (2020), and Reininghaus et al. (2016) mention their degree of education and training, experience caring for psychiatric patients, perception of the efficacy of relapse prevention techniques, and the organizational support they receive. To improve the standard of care given to these patients, nurses’ attitudes toward relapse prevention among mental patients must be improved. To do this, a number of tactics may be used, such as providing nurses with specialized training and education, making sure they have access to enough resources and support, and fostering an environment that encourages teamwork and collaboration at work (Sirey et al., 2018; Jacob et al., 2019; Salzer et al., 2021).
