ABSTRACT

Everywhere, in diverse ways and through various means, people seek to be freed from all that entail pains, suffering and distress that threaten human subsistence. Salvation understood as a quest for a meaningful life or holistic state of being is therefore a vital question that plunges man into a crisis to which the restlessly and tirelessly seeks clarity and certitude. It is a process whereby man seeks to give an answer to his destiny, and finds physical and spiritual security. Therefore, salvation is the fundamental question that characterizes human life. It is not only an anthropological and religious problem, but also an ontological question that touches man in the depths of his very being, thus indicating his most intense need. The search for salvation is a search for a sense and meaning to life and the ultimate destiny of human existence. From the foregoing, this research seeks to answer the questions of the similarities and differences in the context of salvation between Christianity and Ibibio Indigenous Religious Practices. This task shall be carried out under five chapters and the method adopted is the survey method. This method includes the qualitative approach which focuses on gathering verbal data. This research is descriptive in nature for it describes and gives explanations to what salvation is in both Christianity and Ibibio Indigenous Religious Practices and the main contribution of this study to learning is the proper understanding of these religious ideas and concepts as regards salvation, for lack of this understanding breeds unhealthy rivalry and intolerance between them.
