ABSTRACT
This is a study on the effects of terrorism on the Nigerian economy. It specifically examines the role of terrorism in triggering economic recession in the country. The study finds out that insecurity holds damaging consequences on the nation’s economy. Not only does it bring economic activities to a halt, funds meant for development are often diverted into fighting insecurity. Above all, terrorism leads to cost of levies and properties. Human beings are the greatest assets in the process of economic development. Thus, with the loss of human assets, all other forms of economic development are thwarted, thus leading to eventual retrogression. Using the Frustration Aggression Theory, the study blames socio-economic disenfranchisement as the primary cause of terrorism. More so, thus argues that the first and finest way of curbing development and empowerment, while genuine efforts should be made to address the agitations and concerns of aggrieved groups in the country that have degenerated into insurgency and terrorism.
