INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
Our society has been changing lately, and the local government land revenue sector is not an exception. Change has been happening at an inconsistent rate. Because people are social creatures, consumers engage in a wide range of activities these days, including exchanging information, viewpoints, and experiences with others online and consuming material (Heinonen, 2011). The development of technology has led to the emergence of online marketplaces, where buyers and sellers can connect to exchange goods and services, and where businesses can participate in order to advertise their items. Users now see the internet world from a different angle, one that is more commercial in nature. The growth and appearance of online retailers has transformed users into buyers. Social media’s most significant impact has also altered the way that marketers and customers communicate (Hennig-Thurau, Gwinner & Walsh, 2004).
The combination of electronic text, graphics, moving pictures, and sounds in a structured computerized environment that enables people to interact with the material for relevant objectives is known as social media. The Internet, telecommunications, and interactive digital television are examples of the digital environment. The Web is now a component of the larger services, commerce, and communication industries. It modifies corporate procedures. The quantity of material and the speed of access are impacted by its technical restrictions. The telephone line connections are the backbone of the network; the stronger these connections are within a certain area, the more dependable the service. The nature of the interaction made possible by the Web, as well as the kind and quality of material that may be used successfully, have been impacted by the limits associated with moving vast volumes of digital information over telephone lines. Enhancing technical constraints that rely on an available infrastructure capable of delivering more data quicker and more consistently—broadband—is one method to boost performance.
Through peer communication, social media offers a new way to learn about products (Kozinets, 2019). Additionally, customers can influence other buyers by posting reviews of the goods and services they have utilized on social media. Other psychological factors that impact consumers include: income, the reason behind the purchase, the company’s presentation, the brand’s or company’s social media presence, demographic variables (such as age, sex, and disposable income), the payment method used at work, the kind of store (online or brick-and-mortar), etc.
Social media’s distinct features and enormous appeal have transformed marketing strategies including promotion and advertising (Hanna, Rohn & Crittenden, 2011). According to Mangold and Faulds (2009), social networking has also had an impact on consumer behavior, ranging from information seeking to post-purchase actions like expressing unhappiness with a brand or business. It has been apparent in recent years that businesses have a significant influence on online networks. Social media platforms give businesses the chance to communicate and interact with prospective customers, foster a closer bond with them, and establish vital connections with them (Mersey, Davis, Malthouse & Calder, 2010). Companies must set themselves apart through their corporate identity or brand image in order to convey the unique benefits and positioning of their products. According to many marketers, businesses should actively promote just one competitive advantage in the target market (Moise, 2011), and social media makes businesses seem more appealing to customers. Industry leaders have stated that companies need to be active on Facebook, Twitter, My Space, Instagram, YouTube, blogs, Whatsapp, Tik Tok, and other social media platforms in order to succeed in online environments. This is due to the significantly higher level of efficiency of social media when compared to other traditional communication channels (Kaplan & Haenlein, 2010).
Nonetheless, the land dispute has sparked intercommunal strife between two groups, resulting in the loss of lives and property across the nation. The government’s attempts to resolve the conflict over a contested parcel of land have failed on multiple times. Many lives have been lost in the process, and hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of property have been destroyed. a farm land dispute between Modakeke and Ife, Osun State, Southwest Nigeria, which resulted in the destruction of numerous homes and the deaths of numerous individuals, the majority of them were women and children. Furthermore, the madness is not limited to the long-standing feud in Atan Otta, Ogun State, between the families of Ajangboju Koniwo Agbogbo Akindipe and Fatusi Ogedengbe. As a result, the Ministry of Land, through the State government, has been empowered to approve, authenticate, and mediate in matters concerning land and property ownership in Nigeria. To that end, social media would be a viable tool that the government could use to inform, enlighten, and educate the public.
In order to sell land to potential purchasers, the Ogun State government, through the Ministry of Land and Survey, wisely implemented an automation strategy known as the Ogun State Land Administration and Revenue Management System (OLARMS). The government guarantees that applicants will receive their land title documents within 30 days by means of the policy. Land issues are well known to be contentious in Nigeria, evoking both favorable and unfavorable responses. It is also important to understand how the public views the use of OLARMS and how stories on the platform have been received on social media.
1.2 Statement of the problem
As more social media channels, platforms, and applications become available, the usage of social media is growing rapidly. For both private and business communication, people utilize blogs, social networking sites, video sites, online chat rooms, and forums. When looking to buy a certain good or service, the majority of internet shoppers rely on recommendations. According to research findings (South Africa Social Media Landscape, 2012), at least one in three Twitter users shares their opinions about brands or products on a weekly basis. Other customers’ decisions to buy goods or services are influenced by these viewpoints and opinions. The global expansion of online social networks has created a new space for people to interact and communicate. Individuals can share their information, opinions, and experiences with one another thanks to the features given by online social networks, which may influence people’s behavior in terms of communication and purchase. In recent years, social networking has gained prominence in both corporate and personal lives. As a result, this research study discovered that consumers currently rely on social media for product/brand knowledge rather than marketing when purchasing items and services. The goal of this research is to look into how social media may be used to promote Ogun State Land Administration and Revenue Management in the state.
